About Dhammadasa
& His Teachings

Dhammadasa is a Buddhist meditation teacher and author. He spent several years in intensive Buddhist retreats, including a year in solitary meditation. According to Dhammadasa, all religious, spiritual, and psychological traditions share a common goal, which is to guide humanity toward freedom from suffering. Accordingly, he believes that no one path is superior to the other and that they can all work together to further their common aim of serving humanity.

Dhammadasa's teachings focus on the development of spiritual wisdom, harmlessness, and mindfulness. He states that harmlessness constitutes the majority of the spiritual development necessary for awakening. Being harmless in thoughts, words, and actions toward yourself and the world around you leads to a calm body and a still mind. A still mind opens the door to spiritual awakening. Dhammadasa emphasizes that spiritual awakening is a human birthright and that it should not be feared or postponed.

He was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1972 and hails from the ancient Sabean community, the last practitioners of Gnosticism on earth. He is the author of The Heart Blooms in Silence: Reflections from a Year in Solitary Meditation and the upcoming book, Your Heart is Already Enlightened: A Comprehensive Guide to Awakening Your Mind. He is based in Australia and the United States.
